Money Smart Weddings

When planning a wedding you have a choice to enter your marriage in a financially healthy way, or to pile up a mountain of debt, striving for perfection.

Remember: Once you become engaged you will be the target of wedding merchants, marketers and advertisers, so be aware of how you budget and buy for your wedding, keeping in mind that money is one of the top 3 stressors in a marriage.

Today’s bride has many more options than in the past. For example, there are many opportunities for online shopping at multiple websites featuring wedding favors, supplies, invitations, apparel, honeymoon travel, planning, music etc. As a matter of fact, most everything can be comparison shopped online so you can find the best price and still have the wedding of your dreams.

Most guests will remember the feeling of the wedding, the happiness and joy, and whether they had a good time, not necessarily what they ate and what centerpieces were on the table. So, strive for creating a warm, friendly, joyful ambience with your personalized stamp and people will remember it forever.

Here are some more money smart ideas:

·       One way of saving money is to buy in bulk. Look for specials that have this option. Flowers are a huge expense and some florists offer special discounts for larger orders, so it’s a good idea to shop around.  Wedding favors are often packaged in bulk packages depending on each vendor. The money saved here can be spent on the honeymoon.

·       Do it Yourself Wedding Accessories. There are many wedding websites featuring ideas on how to create wedding accessories, such as invitations, centerpieces, bouquets, and wedding favors. Brides that have done this have saved a lot of money by making the accessories themselves. And, of course, they are personal, meaningful and unique.

·       Be organized. Have a budget and stick to it. Know what is really important to you and budget accordingly. Know where your money goes. Make a chart for your budget and break down all the wedding expenses, making sure you have some extra for emergencies.

·       There are many ways to have wonderful music at your wedding without hiring a high priced band or DJ. With all the modern technology at your disposal there are some wonderful CD and MP3 wedding music downloads, that can be operated by almost anybody.

·       Team up with other brides who are getting married before or after you at the same venue. Try to come up with decorating solutions that work for both of you.  Divide up the decorating costs at hotels and catering halls.

Remember in these economic times, less is more. All the guests will appreciate the creativity, attention and effort you have made to maximize your dollars and still have a wedding that everyone can enjoy, while starting your life together in a positive way.
